Allan Shaw of VI Electronics invited The Rt. Honourable David Blunkett MP to be the first person in the UK to roadtest the firm's brand new VI Player

Shaw visited Portcullis House to personally demonstrate an early prototype version of the product which has been designed specifically with the needs of people with visual impairment in mind. The new player will allow the country's estimated two million people who are at registrable levels of visual impairment to enjoy a world of MP-3 entertainment - whether that's traditional music, or audio files; including books. These can easily be loaded and played from either the Internet or from existing libraries using SD card technology.

Key features include a large 2.4" full colour TFT screen for high visibility, raised tactile buttons, 4GB memory enough for 20 unabridged audio books, text-to-voice technology for ease of use, unique, one-click Intelligent Pause™ button. It's Windows Media Player compatible and Audible ready and includes an SD Card reader - up to 8GB.

Supported by UK charity, Calibre Audio Library and developed in conjunction with The Royal National Institute of Blind People, the VI player will be available from October. Mr Blunkett has pledged his support for the launch and will also be conducting a series of media interviews to discuss how visually impaired people access downloadable material and how the Vi-Player makes obtaining, and playing, this material accessible to all.
