SAKS Electronics has been named a winner in the Connect Midlands £5m Investment Challenge. Five, East Midlands-based companies were announced at an Awards evening held on October 10th at Kilworth House Hotel

The Connect Midlands £5m Investment Challenge is run by Connect Midlands, sponsored by BT Business, and backed by Catapult Venture Managers Ltd, the East Midlands Early Growth Fund, and Advantage Business Angels. The Challenge is also supported by emda (East Midlands Development Agency) and GINEM (Growth Investment Network East Midlands).

The challenge offers up to £5m in equity funding for high-growth and technology businesses and is an opportunity for entrepreneurs and businesses in the East Midlands to test their investment potential. Candidates entered by completing an online assessment tool - The Gauntlet which was developed by Doug Richards formerly of Dragon's Den. The Gauntlet acts as a virtual investor and enables companies to gain valuable free feedback, learn how to improve and grow their business, and stand to gain real investment.

Allan Shaw, SAKS Chief Operations Officer said, "We are thrilled to have won this accolade and we are confident that with this additional support we can push ahead to bring to market the ultimate MP-3 player for visually impaired users."
